Dr. Diane Berty was tapped to become Vice President of the Tennessee
Independent Colleges and Universities Association (TICUA) in 2010. In
her role, Dr. Berty works to provide strategic leadership for the
organization focusing on member services, professional development,
and collaborations. She oversees the Benefit Consortium and CHASCo.
Trained as both a Nurse Practitioner and Higher Education Administrator,
Dr. Berty has a wide range of experiences and skills from both public and
private institutions.
Prior to taking the position with TICUA Dr. Berty served as the Vice
President of Student Development at East Central University in
Oklahoma. However, in joining the TICUA staff she returned to
Tennessee. From 1978 until 2007, Dr. Berty worked at Austin Peay State
University in various roles, including Associate Vice President. Her areas
of experience include advancement, career services, enrollment
management, facilities, financial aid, health services and student life. She
has served as faculty for both on-ground and on-line courses.
Berty has been a participant in many higher education/scholarly
organizations and recognized for her contributions. These include:  
Executive Committee Member and Co-Chair, The Network Addressing
Collegiate Alcohol, Other Drug
and Violence Issues; Tennessee State Coordinator, The Network
Addressing Collegiate Alcohol and Other Drug Issues; Co-Chair of the
U.S. Department of Education's Annual National Meeting on Alcohol and
Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention in Higher Education Planning
Committee; American College Personnel Association; Delegate to
Commission XVIII - Alcohol and Other Drug Issues; National Association
of Student Personnel Administrators; American College Health
Association; American Nurses Association; Tennessee Nurses
Association; and Tennessee Action Coalition on Tobacco: TACT.
