Conference Call Meeting
June 9, 2015, 11:00 a.m.
On Call: Jewell Winn, Patricia Burk-Jelks, Cissy Holt, Regina Henry, LaKeisha Armstrong, Nancy Ramsey, Henrietta Kellum-Lusk, Arlene Nichols-Phillips, Lori Groves-White, Cassandra Anderson and Ramona Whitworth
Meeting was called to order by Dr. Winn at 11:02 a.m.
The first discussion was about the conference:
Funding—It is too late to apply for a 501(c)(3) for the 2015 conference. Therefore, we
need to find ways to fund the conference and have seed money left over for the
next conference.
Vendors—we need a variety of products and services. We need to solicit small businesses
to be vendors at our conference to help with funding. Henrietta will be
responsible for managing the vendors.
Budget— We need to continue to offer a professional conference, but we must adjust cost
and try to get more sponsors. Last year, $4,000.00 was spent on food. One of
the suggestions was to have a separate cost for meals, and give out meal
tickets. Another suggestion was to have attendees pay extra for the reception
and charge a late registration fee.
New Registration Fees—A motion was moved, seconded and carried that our fees will
be $125.00 for members and $130 for non-members.
The second discussion was about the speaker:
The budget for the keynote speaker is no more than $2,000.00. We have two
choices for speakers, Dr. Sybil Bennett and Ms. Beth Harwell. If you know of an
engaging and innovative speaker, send the names to Henrietta by Friday, June
19th.
Other Business:
Website—Dalila is unable to update the website at this time. Therefore, Regina will
contact her for training.
Institutional Represenatatives—we need to reach out to them so they can help promote
WHET. Patricia will draft a flyer and send to Lisa to help get them involved.
West Regional Meeting—will be held in September, but we need a date.
Jewell requested that we bring at least 10 people to the conference.
